The month of October is an awesome month indeed! For a lot of us Fall is on it's way, leaves are changing, and temperatures are dropping. We will have a fun time decorating for Halloween and we can’t forget our full MONTH to learn about breast cancer awareness and support to find a cure.
A lot of us unfortunately either have been diagnosed with breast cancer or personally know someone battaling it. In fact, breast cancer is the most common cancer for all women in the US. About 237,000 women and 2,100 men were diagnosed in 2014 according to the CDC.
Luckily we have some really awesome friends in the fishing industry that have created an amazing non-profit organization that offers a unique retreat program helping those battling cancer. Casting for Recovery was founded in 1996 and they focus on improving the quality of life for women with breast cancer by offering therapeutic support through fly-fishing. Through these retreats women find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and nature.
We love what Casting for Recovery has built! We value all of their staff and volunteers that offer their skills and support to those in need. Through Spreading education and treatments like this one, women have more hope for survival and a positive outlet for stress and challenges during their illness.
